The Corporal Works of Mercy
1) Feed the hungry. During the Easter Season and in the Fall, Visitation Parish collects and donates food to the Food Pantry of St. Martin of Tours Parish in Gaithersburg. Our parish also prepares and serves an evening meal at St. Martin's Soup Kitchen on the fifth Thursday of the month.
2) Give drink to the thirsty. During Advent and Lent, Visitation Parish collects and donates food to Head Start families in Montgomery County.
3) Clothe the naked. During Advent, Visitation Parish collects and donates new maternity and baby clothes to Shady Grove Pregnancy Center. Our parish collects and distributes new clothes for school and summer, as needed, through the Head Start Program.
4) Visit those in prison. Eucharistic Ministers from Visitation Parish regularly bring communion to a local psychiatric facility (Rockville) for adults and youth.
5) Shelter the homeless. Visitation Parish participates annually in the Rebuilding Together Program. Local low income homes belonging to those who are elderly or disabled are repaired and maintained at no cost to the homeowners.
6) Visit the sick. Eucharistic Ministers from Visitation Parish regularly bring communion to the homes of those who are sick.
7) Bury the dead. Visitation Parish maintains a parish necrology, a list of the names of members of our parish who have died, and the dates of their death.
